BLÜMCHEN
Album: "Die Welt Gehört Dir" (The World Belongs To You) Single: "Ist Deine Liebe Echt" (Is Your Love Real)
When, in November 1995, the 15-year-old Hamburg schoolgirl Jasmin Wagner first hit the German Media Control charts with an upbeat rave-pop version of the "Paso Doble" German New Wave hit "Herz An Herz" (which eventually reached number 4), even the most knowledgeable music expert would not have been able to predict how the career of this attractive newcomer would develop in the following years.
But whilst many of her contemporaries in the charts completely ended their musical careers and others sought salvation underground in more or less credible sound experiments, Blümchen has, in less than three years, established herself as one of the most interesting and productive German pop acts of the nineties. Amongst many things the singer can boast a dozen hit singles, two gold albums and numerous prestigious awards.
With this in mind we have to credit Bliimchen's discoverers Stani "Silence" Djukanovic and Arn "Paralyzer" Schliirmann with having a good eye for talent. The two producers from Hamburg met Jasmin at a German New Wave party in the Hanseatic city and were immediately encapsulated by her naturalness and temperament. Were the two producers able to imagine that the schoolgirl would not suffer from nerves even in front of thousands of enthusiastic teenagers (during her extended tours) and an audience of millions (during interviews, as a guest on "Wetten, daß...", a German television show, or as the presenter of the RTL "Mini Playback Show")?
Today we know for certain: Blümchen has a very rare, even exceptional natural talent for both music and communication. How many highly-talented musicians, especially in Germany, fail because they are unable to cope with being in the public limelight? And how often have we seen charming media-friendly acts not managing to release one genuine hit single, let alone a complete album making an impact on the charts?
But let's get back to Blümchen. The winner of several BRAVO Otto awards did not come of age until last year and has already released three LPs. As unpretentious as the two previous albums ("Herzfrequenz" and "Verliebt..."), the 13-track album has the short but sweet title "Jasmin" and, as well as the trademark up-tempo songs, it also covers new musical ground. The album contains ballads, house-style songs, groovy tracks and songs in an ultramodern electro-style to make "Jasmin" a fantastic pop album made in Germany which does not lose the optimistic spirit of her previous offerings. From October to December '98 Jasmin toured Germany for the third time with great success and a massive show.
On 4 March 1999 Blümchen received the ECHO, the coveted German recording industry academy award, for the second time in the "Most successful German female artist 1998" category. Bliimchen's rivals this year were: Nena, Nicole, Doro and Sabrina Setlur. Two years ago Blümchen had also taken home an ECHO as "Most successful German female artist". After two gold albums and 13 hit singles, the 19 year old from Hamburg really deserved another ECHO.
The success just won't stop... In May '99 Bliimchen's album "Jasmin - Die Fanedition" was released. After this all was a little quiet on the Bliimchen front in Germany because she spent two months in the USA. But now she's back with a power-charged Christmas single. The current single "Unterm Weihnachtsbaum" is a song with which Bliimchen will really shake people up during this thoughtful and quiet time of the year. In the video Jasmin plays the main role in a wonderful fantasy Christmas fairytale. The single, of course, can also be heard on her latest album "Bliimchen - Live in Berlin". As the title says, the album was recorded during the Berlin concert as part of the Jasmin tour at the end of 1998. As well as old Bliimchen classics like "Boomerang", "Herz an Herz", "Gib" mir noch Zeit" and many others, the classics "Du und Ich", "Blaue Augen", "Kleiner Satellit" and "Bicycle Race" can be heard as a medley. Bliimchen live just what the fans have been waiting for!
In 2000 the album "Jasmin" was discovered by listeners outside Germany as well. The single "Heut ist mein Tag" reached Goldstatus in Sweden and Norway where it was #1 for 4 weeks! Bliimchen travelled to the Scandinavian territories to promote the album on TV and in concerts.
Jasmin returns on the scene with a brand new single. A departure from the straight stomper style of earlier hits, but still faithful to the fun and carefree youth pop attitude, her new single "Ist Deine Liebe Echt" ("Is Your Love Real") is the first one from the upcoming album "Die Welt Gehört Dir" ("The World Belongs To You", out this summer). The groovy pop song comes in two different mixes, one from longtime Bliimchen producer Paralyzer, the other from Jeopard, who already produced songs for German artists like U 96 and Falco.
A European tour is planned for late 2000 / early 2001.
