Alfredo Zitarrosa was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on March 10th 1936. His teenage life in rural Argentina had a strong influence in his repertoire showing his deep farming roots. His first album, "Canta Zitarrosa", paved the way for the promotion of this typical countryside music in his own country. Between 1965 and 1988, Alfredo Zitarrosa recorded approximately 40 albums in different countries, mainly in Uruguay and Argentina, receiving numerous distinctions and awards. He actively participated in international festivals, even as an advocate for the freedom of the Uruguayan people. As a poet, he always introduced references to the world he was part of. As a musician, he wrote several milongas for guitar and created an arrangement typical in the style of Zitarrosa''s, with the distinctive mark of his musical creativity, which elevated this genre as a lively popular folk style. His early and sudden death, in Montevideo on January 17th, 1989, had a strong impact on the Uruguayan people.
