Hermanas Sister
Hermanas Sister
Hermanas Sister are not only unusual because of their curious name, but because it's members all come from different musical backgrounds. The band was founded in 1992 in Fuengirola, Malaga (Spain): Anita Rowe, vocalist and songwriter, was born in Birmingham, and began singing in Soul and Funk bands in England, Carlos Germade, (the only Spaniard of the group), has been the guitarist of a long list of groups of many styles, though mainly rock and fusion. Rodrigo Lopez, the third component of the group and of Chilean nationality, comes from a jazz and salsa background.

They have grown up listening to a mixture of different groups that have influenced them: Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix, Symphonic Rock, Ruben Blades, Blondie, Rickie Lee Jones, Chaka Khan, Be-Bop...

The band won IMAGINAROCK (Pop/Rock competition). From this, we get their debut album "The Punk Acid-Jazz Experience" released through XXY-Caribe records.

This surprising album contains 10 songs, showing the various influences and impossible to label style: it isn't grunge, it can't be called noise: it's only "Rock 'n Roll" and all that implies.

Listening to the record, you can find acid-jazz in "Empty," hip-hop in "Hippy Hope," "Standing in the Shadows" contain latin rhythms and "She's Swimming" is a ballad.

The songs, written and sung in English, are (at last!) really good, which makes Hermanas Sister a strange phenomenon on the Spanish musical scene.

"The Punk Acid-Jazz Experience" will be one of the big surprises and an important record this year. Hermanas Sister are here to stay.
