Ivana Santilli
Ivana Santilli
Santilli released her first solo debut "Brown" in 1999, after leaving the highly acclaimed Bass is Base. "Brown" confirms her penchant for combining beautiful music through thoughtful lyrics, taking her listeners through the varied mix of her influences: Soul, R&B, Latin, Drum&Bass and even her French/Italian heritage. Spurred by critical acclaim and a kick-ass live show, the album became one of the best selling independent albums in Canada that year.

Autumn of 2002 saw Ivana begin work on her follow-up album, an album she hoped would be a progression of the music found on "Brown". To this end she made a wish-list of producers and set out to create the album of her dreams. The result is a warm, yet funky concoction called "Corduroy Boogie". Says Ivana, "(the title) Corduroy Boogie is my way of describing the music I'm making. I dug more into groove, and that's why I thought a texture would be appropriate".

Slated for a February 2004 release, the album features production from some of Ivana's favourite producers; King Britt (Sylk 130), Dego (4Hero), Kaidi Tatham (Agent K, Herbaliser), Stuart Matthesman (Sade, Maxwell) , Ajile (Brassmunk, Nas) James Poyser (Lauryn Hill, Common) Dwele, Omar, and Solitair (Kardinal Offishall, Choclair) on co-production.

"My first goal has always been to write strong songs, but I wanted to mesh the innovative drum programming coming out of underground London, Germany, Philly, etc. and bring it to entire song-writing. I wanted people to be able to dance, sing, drive, wash dishes...make love to my music."

As with the first album Ivana once again proves her versatility on "Corduroy Boogie"; writing, composing, co-producing, arranging, singing, playing keys, trumpet and on one track, even drums.

"I'm excited... very. I have an album that I like and am proud of. It represents my true experiences, lyrically and musically, and I would rock to it, even if it wasn't mine..."
