Laney Stewart
Born in Chicago, Laney Stewart grew up in nearby Calumet City, IL. He knew he wanted to work in music production when he was nine years old. His mother was a backup singer to such entertainment powerhouses as Aretha Franklin and Curtis Mayfleld. Stewart was raised in an environment that allowed him to begin playing drums at age five, teach himself piano when he was nine, and start writing songs when he was just eleven. Claiming R & B and Gospel as his background, he was involved in church choir as both a singer and pianist during his teens, and also wrote jingles for such commercials as McDonalds, Coca Cola, United Airlines, Coors Beer, Busch Gardens, Ford, Kroger and Bud Light. Some of his early musical influences included the artist formerly known as Prince, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Ohio Players, and the late Charles Stepney among others. When he was 19, Stewart jumped on the chance to start his own production company.

Still working with advertisement jingles, Stewart received a break when a friend secretly forwarded his demo tape to friends in Los Angeles. He continued to write songs, collaborating with new industry contacts. Stewart traveled to Los Angeles so often that in 1992 after a year of being on the road, he relocated his production company there.

With commercial jingle-writing behind him, Stewart spent his time in Los Angeles developing songs and albums with various artists and producers including Karyn White, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Babyface, Go West, Regina Belle, Shanice, Keith Washington, Chante Moore, Toni, Tony, Tone, K-Ci & Jo Jo and Sam Salter. His projects forced him to adhere to a busy schedule, spending time with his children during the day, and writing music from the early evening until well past midnight.

In 1999, Stewart relocated to Atlanta where he continues to work with his brothers Chris “Tricky” and Mark at their state of the art recording facilities. He is busy working on several production deals with various labels.
