Los Pinguos
Los Pinguos
LOS ANGELES TIMES
"Los Pinguos, an L.A.-based group of Argentine musicians whose festive sing-a-long tunes are equal parts cumbia, son and tarantella. The septet offered one of the show's most ingenious surprises when it segued into a soaring version of Sumo's classic "La Rubia Tarada" — an incisive piece of social commentary with an infectious hook, one of the few moments that equaled the magazine's creativity."

MUSIC CONNECTION
"In a similar fashion to the Latin performer Manu Chao, Los Pinguos has a catchy and unique style that appeals to more than just a Spanish-speaking audience. While Los Pinguos draw much inspiration from the traditional music of Argentina, they bring many other influences into their music that makes it stand on its own."

BIOGRAPHY
They came from cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, Argentina, with every intention of making some noise. And in such a short time, they have done just that! Their music is a mixture of Latin rhythms, performed with nylon guitars and percussion. It is the beat of their sound that makes fans from all over the world. These fans are people who come to Los Angeles looking for stars and find these five Argentinean lads in the most unlikely of places – a shopping center – playing their music; making some noise.

The story started two years ago when Adrian and Enzo Buono, Jose Agote, Juan Manzur , and Juan Manuel Leguizamon, got together and formed their group, Los Pinguos, to play in clubs, bars, and private parties in their hometown. They gathered a fan base and would have made a pretty good living doing just that, had it not been for the knowledge that their music would take them places. So, they packed their bags and headed north to the city of angels.

Newly arrived to Los Angeles, Los Pinguos began playing at local bars such as Your Place, Studio 7, Latin Lounge, and the Knitting Factory. They were even invited to perform at the end-of-season party for the hit ABC show, Dharma & Greg. But it wasn’t until they hit the sidewalks of Santa Monica’s 3rd Street Promenade (a Los Angeles shopping and restaurant hot spot) that the band realized the potential their music had to reach a wide and diverse audience. Momentum and interest increase. They were spotted by a talent scout who urged them to audition for a new television show, hosted and produced by Ed McMahon. The show, The Next Big Star, would hold a nationwide talent competition and would host a talent show extravaganza in Las Vegas, Nevada, which would air nationally. Los Pinguos made it to the finals in Las Vegas, and despite all odds, despite fierce competition from more seasoned groups, despite being the only Latin band, swept with the audience vote and held on to win the contest.

Today, Los Pinguos are signed to an exclusive publishing deal with peermusic and become members of a club that includes such Latin powerhouses as Juanes, Coti, Elefante, Molotov, and Jaguares. This is a new beginning for a band not afraid of taking big chances. For Adrian, Enzo, Jose, Juan, and Juan Manuel – Los Pinguos – this is another step in the road that leads to their success.
