Mark Wilkinson
Despite training from a young age in both piano and cello, it wasn''''t until his university days that Mark Wilkinson picked up a guitar and began the next stage of his musical journey. He locked himself away for days and nights at a time, carefully crafting his originals. The results of this dedicated approach are apparent in every poetic lyric and melody found throughout his body of work.
Thanks to the well-intentioned badgering of an enthusiastic housemate, Mark made a speedy transition from bedroom composer to stage performer. His live debut took place in 2005 when he wowed an unsuspecting audience with a clutch of songs never before heard in public. Hundreds of gigs later there seems no doubt that the time spent learning his trade has led to the introduction of a new and distinctive voice on the Australian music scene.
A natural storyteller, Mark''''s songs invoke tales of passion and honesty, tied up in his own observations of the world around him. Infused with a voice drenched in soul, this is music that reaches out and strikes listeners at their emotional core.
Mark Wilkinson is now captivating an ever-increasing number of fans lucky enough to have been turned on to the singer and his songs. Many of these have made their discovery watching Mark share stages with some of Australia''''s most established acts including Diesel, Clare Bowditch. Sarah McLeod, Mark Seymour and Damien Leith – (Mark undertook a national tour with the Australian Idol winner).
After returning from a series of performances in Europe over the Australian winter and spring, Mark will pick up where he left off, once again headlining a tour of the east coast promoting his upcoming EP, "Counting Down The Hours".
