Merhe a 25 year old from Madrid had her first album released in 1996 on which influences from Jane’s addiction to Janis Joplin were apparent. Thanks to the support of the radio program “Gomaespuma” (M-80 netowrk) she sung her first album of songs together with Janis Joplin’s classics all over Spain. At the same time her singles “Miedo a perderte” (“Fear of loosing you”), “Una lágrima” (A Tear”) and “Soñé que era Sevilla” (“I dreamt I was in Sevilla”) were playing in the most important radio stations. Between 1978 & 1998 she went on performing in small venues in order to improve her style and sound. She even traveled to the refugee camps of Tindurf (Sahara) to act in behalf of the refugees.
The year 2000 is the year of Merche Corisco. Her second album “Dulce Kaos” includes 10 sincere and narrative songs that seem scenic, full of spontaneity, and vigor. Merche has matured as a performer and as an author she has improved by leaps and bounds. More open than before, she listens to musicians such as Björk, Portishead, Massive Attack, Valerie Carter, Finley Quaye, Fiona Apple, Pata Negra or Albert Plá etc… and she has read from Vicente Aleixandre to Kafka or El Gran Wyoming. All this has produced jewels of titles as different as “Frio sin ti” (“Cold without you”), “Sigo Soñando” (“I keep on dreaming”), “Tal Vez” (Maybe”), “Sobran las Palabras”, (Words are over”) or “Cozy Relincho” (“Kick and Whinny”) that announce highly deserved success and recognition, gained after four years of work, finding a personal style fresher, more direct and independent.
It’s been worth the four year wait.
