Michael Dukes
A gifted lyricist, Michael Dukes is also an accomplished guitarist, keyboardist, programmer and producer. Last year, Dukes joined forces with Hamburg-signed peermusic composer Uli Reese to form Mechanical Birds, the pop/rock group crowned Best Unsigned Artist by Keyboard Magazine in January 2007. Sad Sad Song, a tune from the group’s debut album, has already been placed in indie feature film The Third Eye via peermusic’s Canadian office.
In addition to writing and recording new material for a second Mechanical Birds album, Dukes has just completed a self-produced solo project as Monkeydog. The idea behind Monkeydog was, in his words, “to work quickly, with something approaching reckless abandon. To combine eccentric guitars with toy keyboards and sad little third world drum machines gleaned from a hundred yard sales. To use the sonic equivalent of found objects wherever and whenever possible. And, above all, to have fun.” The results are memorable, upbeat and decidedly left of the middle.
Prolific both as a writer and producer, Dukes is quickly expanding into more international collaborations with peermusic writers from the UK and Australia. He is currently based out of Nashville.
