From the island of Cuba comes singer/songwriter NIURKA. Her music and soothing voice emit the warmth of her passion and reflect the marked influences of “La Nueva Trova Cubana”. Niurka began to play the guitar at age 8 on a guitar made by her grandfather. Her talent was cultivated in the streets of Cuba and inspired by childhood memories of Sindo Garay, Silvio Rodriguez and Pablo Milanes. Most recently, she has found inspiration in the sounds of Rosana, Presuntos Implicados and Ani DiFranco.

In 1997, peerMiami inked an exclusive writer agreement with Niurka, following her signing with Warner Music Mexico for a five-album deal. She has had success with the release of Aranza’s (Azteca Music) 1st single “AMA.” This single, which gives title to the album, boosted sales to 15,000 units in only 3 weeks after release! The album contains 2 additional songs by Niurka.

Niurka’s debut as a singer/songwriter on her album entitled, “Quiero Vivir”, was released in the U.S. in March 2000. This soulful and energizing album was produced by “Luisfer” Ochoa (producer of Shakira). The 1st single, “Mas De Ti,” was featured in the soundtrack for Golpe Bajo, a popular TV Azteca soap opera starring Mexican diva Lucia Mendez.
