Ox
Vancouver/Sudbury Canada's Ox is led by the singing and songwriting of Mark Browning. The album “Dust Bowl Revival” is a collection of studio weary fragments, fragile masterpieces and sonic accidents, featuring Nathan Lawr (Royal City), Chôn (Radiogram), Jesse Zubot (Zubot & Dawson), Ruby Loves U (Sarah Craig), & ‘Cosmic’ Dave Jeffrey. In the tradition of The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers, The Velvet Underground and Frank Zappa – Ox is a musical meeting of the minds – a musical affirmation that anything goes, anything rocks, anything rolls. Ox springs from a folk background – cultivated in the fertile soils of the Canadian & American heartland – upon miles of highway, years of greyhound bus touring, and a multitude of adventure, Woody Guthrie style. What has emerged is a reflection of middle-America – where trash and beauty meet – a musical liquor store heist that will leave a distinct flavour of dust in your mouth.
Mark Browning is a 2 time West Coast Award nominee for Male Artist Of The Year. His hit singles ‘Transam’ (2003) & ‘Gasoline’ (2001) have been featured on CBC national radio and the video for ‘Gasoline’ has been featured on Much More Music. Both Mark Browning and Ox have completed multiple tours over the past 5 years in Canada, the UK and the USA including 2 cross Canada tours and 2 ten week U.K tours in the last 6 months alone. Browning released ‘Years Of Sadness’ in 2000 and ‘Ballads, Love Songs & Gasoline’ in 2001 under his own name and he has shared the stage with such artists as Sarah Harmer, Matt Mays, Martin Tielli (Rheostatics), John Bottomley, Mary Lou Lord, The Sadies, Radiogram, Oh Susanna, Chris Mills and many more.
Ox’s ‘Dust Bowl Revival’ peaked at #1 on the Canadian National College Radio Chart and at # 56 on the CMJ (USA) chart – entering the CMJ chart as the 16th most 'added' record of the week across America.
