The Vicious Five
The Vicious Five
In what might be considered one of the most surprising moves on the Portuguese music scene, Loop:Recordings, who is mainly considered a Hip Hop label, releases "Up on the walls" by art punk rock band The Vicious Five, on their alternative music label Loop:Off.

But if you think about it, it isn't that surprising. Hip Hop and punk rock have a strong common ground. you don't have to go back that long to see the Beastie Boys, full of images of Ian McKaye in their heads, going from hardcore to hip hop. Or Run DMC helping Aerosmith (who are just rock and no punk) break the barriers of both musical languages that had been, until then, so aesthetic and racially separated.

And so, in 2005, it seems so natural that the first album by one of the best rock bands (we can say this now , can't we?) this country has ever seen would be released by one of the most professional, open minded and charismatic labels in Portugal.

On "Up on the walls", you can hear less of JR Ewing (but the new school of hardcore is still there), the magic of Fugazi, the Who(of those five tracks they did that proved they were really amazing), the deceitful simplicity of the hardest moment by the Kinks (less fuzz, more overdrive) or the interior revolution of MC5.

Whoever has seen The Vicious Five's live show can only expect the best from their debut, released on September 30, 2007.
